Gregory Schaffer, LFACHE

Healthcare Consultant

Greg Schaffer is an independent healthcare consultant who previously served as the CEO of Tawam Hospital in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, UAE on a contract with Johns Hopkins Medicine International who managed the hospital for Abu Dhabi Health Services. Before joining Tawam, Schaffer served as the president and CEO of the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Prior to his Hopkins career, Schaffer was vice president of support services at Saint Vincent's Medical Center, Staten Island, New York. He also held executive positions at the Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven, Connecticut, and McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts. Schaffer also served as director of emergency medical services in New Britain, Connecticut. Schaffer earned a master’s degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an undergraduate degree from Central Connecticut State University. A Life Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Schaffer also served as a member and officer of numerous community boards in the Baltimore region including a term as the chairman of the Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce. He also served as chairman of the Southeast Community Development Corporation, as a trustee of the Institute of Notre Dame, as a Lifeboard member of the Chesapeake & Potomac Region of the American Red Cross, and as a trustee of the American Kidney Fund. Mr. Schaffer also served as an associate faculty member at the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health and as a preceptor for the master’s program in healthcare administration at George Washington University


Raymond Bertrand, M. Arch, CFM

Architect

Raymond Bertrand's career spans impressive international experience, academic contributions, and military service. He specializes in healthcare project planning, programming, and design, backed by 30 years of expertise across 47 countries. His educational background includes a Ph.D. in Environment-Behaviour Studies, an M.Arch. in Architectural Design, a B.A. in Environmental Design, and a Diploma in Psychology. Bertrand holds professional accreditations in facility management and architectural standards, along with being a registered architect in France. Bertrand's career highlights include roles such as Healthcare Regional Technical Director at JACOBS, freelance consultancy for major healthcare projects globally, and contributions to numerous hospital designs and master plans. He has also been involved in academic endeavors, teaching facilities management and urban studies courses. Additionally, Bertrand has a rich military background, having served as an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves and the French Army Reserve Health Services. His extensive experience, diverse skills, and global perspective make him a notable figure in healthcare project management and design

Chemical Pathologist

A Chemical Pathologist with over 40 years experience in the field and 30 years of international experience in laboratory medicine at senior leadership level. He has extensive international experience of managing and leading multidisciplinary laboratories in the UK, Germany, South Africa and the UAE. Gurdeep has been a member of strategic planning committees in the UK, South Africa and the UAE to plan, standardize and rationalize the provision of laboratory services at institutional, provincial, Emirate and national level for both ambulatory and tertiary care facilities including Point of Care Testing. As Chief Medical Officer of Purehealth UAE had responsible for clinical, medical, scientific and quality leadership for all laboratory services for 16 Hospital laboratories and 66 Primary Health Care centers and 22 Visa Testing laboratory outlets for the Ministry of Health & Prevention (MOHAP) UAE. Purehealth was contracted by MOHAP to provide comprehensive laboratory services for the above facilities and to establish a reference laboratory to bring tests referred abroad within the scope of services provided in house. During the COVID pandemic Purehealth was the leading provider of PCR testing in the UAE with an average of 100000-150000 PCR tests conducted daily. Gurdeep was instrumental in establishing on site laboratory testing for 3 field hospitals and ensuring the continued provision of laboratory services to the hospitals and primary health vare facilities. As Chairman of Laboratory Medicine at Tawam Hospital led and managed a +150 staff contingent of Consultant Pathologists, Clinical Scientists and technologists with overall responsibility for the strategic development, clinical, technical, quality and operational management of a full range of medical laboratory services including a very comprehensive Point of Care Testing program of which he was Chairman. He was Command Advisor [rank of Lieutenant Colonel] to the British Army of the Rhine with overall responsibility for all matters relating to a multidisciplinary pathology services for the British Army in Germany. Established a reference service for the British Army medical services in anatomical pathology, endocrinology and serology; managed all laboratory assets in Germany and rationalised usage of blood and blood products reducing wastage Throughout his career in Laboratory Medicine, Gurdeep has been committed to quality and was a founder member of the Specialist Technical Committee [Medical Laboratories] South African National Accreditation body (SANAS) which established the accreditation program for medical laboratories. He was the lead pathologist for the successful JCI and CAP accreditation programs of the institutes he worked at. He was an inspector for the College of American Pathologists Laboratory Accreditation Program and ISO 15189. Since 1982 he has been teaching undergraduate medical students and post graduate trainees in Clinical Biochemistry. Gurdeep has over 40 publications in peer reviewed journals and is a reviewer reviewer for Clinica Chimica Acta, Clinical Biochemistry, CCLM and ACQAL. He was on the editorial board of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Journal and the International Advisor for the Middle East & North Africa at the Royal College of Pathologists UK. As a physician, Dr Gurdeep Dhatt has both the skills and experience in all aspects of Laboratory Medicine (Clinical, laboratory, point of care testing, quality & accreditation, academic & research and management). He is highly motivated and committed to playing a key leadership role in the clinical laboratory and striving for excellence in service provision to enable clinical effectiveness and enhance patient safety.


Dr. Holland Ravelle

Consultant Radiologist

Dr. Ravelle is a breast radiologist from Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She received her BS in Radiation Science and her medical degree from University of Nebraska. Her radiology residency and breast imaging fellowship were obtained in San Antonio, TX. She spent 5 years as CEO of Summit Diagnostic Imaging, responsible for all aspects of the practice to include equipment purchasing, facilities planning, contracts and staffing. Dr. Ravelle then joined Mayo Clinic Health System, spending 13 years as Director of Breast Imaging and 5 years as Radiology Department Chair. Mayo Clinic then capitalized on her experience by transferring her to SSMC hospital in Abu Dhabi. She continued her skills as department chair but with a much larger roll to include hospital staffing and department design. She has also lectured around the world and mentored many younger physicians. Her hobbies include ballroom dancing, photography, geology, and mycology.


Dr. Satish Chandra MBbCh, PhD, MBA, AbMQ, BMedInform.

Clinical Research Consultant

Dr Satish Chandra is a renowned healthcare consultant with cross-disciplinary expertise along the entire healthcare value chain. His expertise is derived from the design, development, and deployment of operational excellence during his tenure with multinational pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, and academic medical centres in the USA, and the UAE. He has successfully enabled international and regional engagements with providers, patients, regulators, accreditation bodies, academic and healthcare institutions, and funding portals to develop high-quality cost-effective models of research operations for integrated health systems, academic medical centres, ambulatory care models, and physician groups. He has provided timely solutions for the institutions to address a broad spectrum of challenges, off-load nonperforming assets, and create opportunities for transformation in healthcare research and operations. Dr Chandra, is the former specialist and medical research director, at Tawam Hospital, SEHA, and a Professor at the College of Medicine UAE University. Before that, he served in the senior management of multinational Merc, Essoterix pharmaceutical companies in California, USA. He graduated from the YN Medical College, followed by a post graduate degree in medical biochemistry and later a PhD. In molecular medicine, MBA (Health Information), from the University of Minnesota, USA, and International certification in Medical Quality, and Medical Informatics and Innovation from Oregon State University, USA. His problem-solving, design, deployment, research, and innovation skills make him unique in healthcare, particularly in creating transformative models for clinical trials, clinical operations, training, and regulatory firewalls. He has over 150 indexed international peer-reviewed scientific publications such as the Lancet, British Medical Journal, PLOS, and has authored books on disease susceptibility (Wiley) and Ethics. He is also an advisory editorial board of several reputed high-impact medical journals and a respected cochair of human research ethics committees. He is a key opinion leader in the healthcare research sector, particularly for entire value chain of clinical trials development, and a respected trainer for medical professionals and trainees.
